Acupuncture Q&A

How Many Treatments Will Be Required?

Most patients begin to notice benefits within the first 1-3 treatments. With acupuncture, the effectiveness of each treatment typically builds upon the previous one. The number of treatments will vary with each individual depending on their particular condition. Acute problems may require only a few treatments while more complex and chronic conditions may initially require one or two treatments a week with less frequent treatments as improvement occurs. As in any form of healing the patient’s attitude, diet, determination and lifestyle will affect the outcome of a course of treatment. In general terms, on most patients undergo between 6-10 treatments to work on a specific issue. Many choose to continue acupuncture on a less frequent basis for overall health, wellness, and relaxation. Others come back as needed when new health issues arise.

How Should I Prepare For A Treatment?

Please avoid or at least minimize caffeine consumption prior to treatment. Too much caffeine can hinder relaxation and make needling sensations more pronounced. It is best to eat something within 2-3 hours prior to your session (but don’t overeat). Ample food helps the body to better assimilate the treatment.

Are The Needles Clean And Safe?

All needles used in an Acupuncture treatment come in a factory sealed package and are pre-sterilized. After use, the needles are then disposed of into a biohazard Sharps container.

Does Insurance Cover Acupuncture? Will You Bill My Insurance?

About 30% of my patients have Acupuncture coverage so it is worth calling your insurance carrier to find out. I am currently out of network with Blue Cross/Blue Shield until November 2017. If you have BCBS coverage or Acupuncture coverage with another carrier, I will be happy to provide you with a superbill for you to submit to your insurance carrier for re-embusement.
